Musing about Yuri in Red Alert 3

Well, This is a task that people that more than a few have tried and failed at...

But to muse, What would need to be filled in for a RA3 Yuri mod to happen.

I know no one wants any RA3 modding anymore, but I'm just curious if I should make a return to C&C modding, and would this be a big enough task to draw people back to the end of C&C modding...or is to too much for one person?

Or should I just squirrel to KW with it's lack of competition?

(Id this is not where this should go, sorry. I'll move it if possible.)

In terms of failed attempts, I think the best one was a mod called Red Alert Synergy which died out a while back sadly.

I'm not sure RA3 modding was ever a big thing to begin with so I doubt this would draw people back. Things like OpenRA and the TS Client have been better for that.

With regard to the idea though, I think a Yuri faction in RA3 would be awesome given what I saw of that failed attempt but I do think it's too big of an endeavor for one person to handle most likely.

Think there were plans to bring Yuri back in some form or another in Red Alert 3. Uprising has concept art for a Soviet Mastermind Tank (Updated to now to be able to hover in line with RA3's emphasis on amphibious combat)

IIRC RA3 was also Mod "Unfriendly" as the Synergy Devs talked about very often during its development.

If you mean something like the mind control thing, couldn't that be done with modifying the Spy's bribe code and making it a ranged weapon like a Terror Drone's EMP?

If you mean an entire new faction, the only way you could get a Yuri faction in would be to replace the Japanese side I believe.

RA3 is an odd beast in modding. you get more freedoms than TW in some places, but there are some oddly hardcoded things. that is what kills mods trying to add a faction, because the code only allows 3 factions, along wiht the unmoddable music except in custom maps.

But in a bit, I'll post a concept for a RA3 feeling Yuri, as you can't just Copy pasta Yuri

I liked Yuri. There are a lot of elements he has that could make up an exciting faction. Obviously it terms how strict the interpretation but even with that is on par of keeping his RA2 likeness there is room to explore.

Double so when your trying to mix styles, as I was going to try to keep as much RA3's design idea when making a Yuri faction.

Along with the fact that Yuri does not have many units in vYR...You'd have to take some liberties, or borrow ideas from YR mods. Shamelessly hides links to yr mods
