I'm not doing this to promote my awful webspace, but because I have this article posted in more then one place, and I want to be able to update just one set of files.
Included is some revised info, such as the proper camera and lighting.
The POV template is more seriosly useable.
I'll be taking a closer look at it later, though I suspect it says what I had already planned. ATM though I need to start studying for my drivers test. _________________

Thanks, Banshee :->; but meselfs is not capitalized, and my tutorial discourages GMax.
just noted now... I was in a hurry, but I couldnt ignore this tutorial. Now, I've just read it entirelly and noticed that it tells you to uninstall GMAX . Anyway, the news has been fixed and this tutorial is great. But I will need to re-read it next time I model something to generate some cool rendering... and also, BS SHP Builder will import BMPs much faster in newer versions due to some optimizations I've made on it... That's what I thought ; nevermind me, I have an irrational hatred for Discreet (don't ask why, note the word irrational).
I've been reading in the CNC Editing forum and indeed it looks like the good will soon be much better... _________________ My 3D to SHP tutorial
This is really a great tut if you take the time to read through it! although some/alot of this i already knew, i did learn a much better easier technique for shadows, thanks! QUICK_EDIT

when I get a new black ink cartridge, I'll print this off and read the whole thing... looks good however I use 3dsmax, so I'll have to do some adjusting. _________________ Formerly active PPM modder (maps, voxels, sprites) and Webmaster of C&C Central in the early 2000's on the Origin/Revora network. A good tutorial, but modelling can be done in POV-Ray. I do it all the time! It's not nearly as hard as it looks at first, and always looks better than a comparable scene done in a 3D modelling program. That's because Pov-Ray uses real shapes instead of polygons. _________________

Well, the POV manual says that you shouldn't model with POV.
Concerning primitives, you're completely right. POV renders them as nonplanar equations (a mesh is basically a bunch of planar equations, umm, meshed together), so they do have absolute accuracy and they render fast. You should use these shapes wherever possible.
However, I'd love to see you model a nice tank or a boat or something with POV. Or better yet, a character.
Smooth yet unpredictable surfaces are the bane of modeling with little objects like boxes, cylinders, and spheres. _________________ My 3D to SHP tutorial

Nicely done Gordon. However, since you have control of the server, would you mind adding a darker colour to the backdrop? I think the original article probably did anyway, since the font is a little hard to read on a pure white backdrop... I would imagine a grey to dark grey backdrop would be perfect. QUICK_EDIT

Just a thought

Background
Use a plane (infinite if available). Set the color of pure blue (0,0,255).
For this I took a pic of the blue background from the Shp Builder and made it a bmp image. And used this for my plane. This way I had the exact blue from the game for rendering purposes. When I import my image from 3d Max to Shp Builder it was dead on. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
I'm new here and I don't know that much about this forum and its community, but i'm having trouble with the downsizer, i'm using blender and i can't seem to get it working, of course i could just be failing at following instructions. Help would be much appreciated. Thank You. QUICK_EDIT
This topic is extremely old and it's extremely likely the tools simply do not work with the newer Blender versions or your version of Windows. I'd say use GIMP and convert to PNG and then to SHP in SHP Builder, it may not be the fastest way, but it's definitely one that'd work.
EDIT: Aquired knowledge about the program in question. _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT
If you're using this template it has nodes that allows you to render cropped images. All you need to do is to go to composite, connect Mix node to output, set correct scale and file path and hit render. QUICK_EDIT
