The Soviet's reliance on their formidable tank battalions has since taken it's toll on logistics. While Service Pads are able to repair tanks quickly, they can't do so on the fly. This forces damaged tanks to drive towards the nearest Service Pad for repairs, which places them in a vulnerable spot. It doesn't help that Soviet tanks are slow and sluggish. Fortunately, Repair Rigs were introduced to remedy this. Built on the old 8x8 "Bullfrog" chassis which replaced the original Flak Tracks somewhere late in GWWII, they're not as tough as other Soviet vehicles. They're reasonably fast enough to keep up with tank battalions, where they can provide on-field repairs when needed, significantly extending the tanks' lifespan. Being unarmed, they're always kept away from battle, only driving up to provide urgent repairs.
