A large neutral nation that has seen a massive boom in military power following its recovery from a severe economic depression in the late 1920s and devastating Pacific war in the 1940s.
History
America throughout the RAverse has had a complex role. The United States economy tanked due to the Great Depression, but instead of gradually recovering, the 1930s were stagnant. When 1939 came around and there was no WW2, wasn't presented with an opportunity to recover by gearing its industries for war- the Depression lingered. However, as in our time, the Japanese struck Pearl Harbor in 1941 as part of their ambitions to control Pacific resources- the difference being that in addition to the Battleships, the Aircraft Carriers were lost as well. This led to the "Pacific War" drag on until 1947, and led to a dramatic land invasion of Japan and the use of a "super bomb" on several Japanese cities.
The real focal point for American military involvement was in China however. The American people were sympathetic to the Chinese struggle against the Japanese and this soon transferred to the Nationalists in their Civil War. When the Nationalists retreated to Taiwan, the US sent its fleet to guard the island- only to have it attacked by communist forces. This led to the Sino-American Conflict, which with immense Soviet material aid (in particular, a nuclear weapon), the Chinese won.
American citizens remain bitter about this and their is a popular sentiment that the conflict is not over, however it is likely this anger will be transferred to the Soviets if word gets out that most of their casualties came from Soviet-built equipment.
During the Second Great War, the United States was officially neutral, but through exporting and licensing, basically sponsored the entire Allied war effort. By the late war, the main Allied medium and light tanks were American designs and several "volunteer" divisions of American troops were present in the Allied armies.
Specializations
- Generalists: The Americans pride themselves in being jacks of all trades. Their units tend to be more effective against a wider range of units than their European counterparts.
- Artillery Mastery: US Artillery is unmatched in its power and effectiveness- using massive guns with fearsome accuracy, whether the enemy is on the defensive or offensive, they are sure to feel the hurting.
- Air Dominance: While American close air support is suspect, the ability of the US Air Force and Army Air Defense Corps to clear the skies is unquestioned.
