"Delta V" Class Missile Sub
The Delta V class of missile subs is a heavily modified version of the Delta IV class submarines, specifically designed for surface-to-air combat. It is equipped with SLAAMs (Submarine-Launched, Anti-Air Missiles), capable of stopping enemy aircraft and ballistic missiles. The Delta V class is in fact only diesel-electric powered, since the Delta IV chassis didn't provide enough of a safety threshold for the crewmembers, if radiation were to spread aboard the ship, as opposed to the Oscar II class, which has more space. Noticeable features include an enlarged conning tower, which is where the specialized radar arrays for tracking airborne targets are located. Near the rear of the vessel, there are hydraulic pipes and tubing used to launch the SLAAMs. (Such a design was necessary because launching and housing SLAAMs underwater was still a design challenge faced by Soviet engineers) QUICK_EDIT
