I haven't played it but it does look awesome.
I'll search for my PC Gameplay magazine and I'll post the score. Smile

The first impression was spectacular, but when it got released, and people tried it...well, lets just say they were disappointed...very disappointed Neutral

I went and read some reviews, most complaints are "ZOMG IT ISN'T THREEEE DEEE!!!" Or "Ugh bugs...." But most of these have been fixed and the post-release support kicks EA support 's arse so hard I think they broke something. Apparently the review at honestgamer is most truthful, dunno about 9/10 but seems ok.

It isn't about the 3D part. The game is simply using old features, without updating them to todays standards.

That's why it's an old-school RTS

I wish more modern games would stop jumping to 3D, sometimes that extra direction to go in doesn't work out... True, from a coding perspective 3D is a whole lot easier to work with, but it usually takes competitive designing to ensure your survival as a developer... A small company can never take on the giant teams of the larger ones, by the time they're done the GPUs are five, six years ahead. #Tongue

The beautiful thing about 2D games is that detail doesn't cost any extra resources. A 2D prerendered image obviously does not have to be recreated on the spot.

Did you know that in Japan for example there is still a very big market for enjoyable 2D sidescrolling shooters? I have seen some truly gorgeous shooters being released over there, pity not all of them are in English. I wish the same were true for 2D Isometric RTS/RPG games.

Of course, I'm a very big retro gamer... But I'm not the only one out there, perhaps the industry should start looking into this, but then again they probably won't. #Tongue

Hell, there's a lot to be said for 2D, I know of a mod for a 5-7 year old game that looks absolutely beautiful, brilliant gameplay, excellent strategies and guess what? It's just building on the game's original concept, a 2d WWII RTT game, there is still a good oline community, consisten updates and several other co-existing mods.

Thius game's third installment went to 3D, it was in development for years, and the gameplay is worse than the 2D one, I have all of the games in this series minus the Xpack for the first one aand I can safely say my least favourite is the one in 3D.

3d suits FPS, 2d Suits RTS, the farthest into 3d they need to go is cliffs and aircraft, any further than that leads to chaos...

Albrecht is right. While a 3D RTS looks nice, it really doesn't play quite as nicely as a 2D one in my opinion.
SunAge looks nice, but I think I'll use my money for GTAIV.

Hence why we are still modding A 2.5D RTS when spamberium Wars, kane's waffles and N00b alert 3 are all out. Don't give me bullshit about no SDK, RA2 didn't have one.

That's, very, very true. Smile

I haven't even played the new C&Cs yet, apart from 5-15 minutes of the C&C3 demo which was then ditched since it wouldn't run smoothly on my previous pc. I could easily download them off some random site right now but frankly I don't feel the need to play them. Am I alone in that or what? #Tongue

I didn't even play the demos. I think I saw the words "fast-paced" "exciting" "action packed" and "EA"...
Fast-paced=spamfest
Exciting=pretty colours
Action packed=Games will be over in 15 minutes or less
EA=They have a habit of mass-appeal games. I hate mass-appeal games.

And C&C modding was born by doing stuff ourselves, isn't it time that was rediscoverd if we really want to mod Kane's Waffles?

What do you mean "we". You obviously dont like it (and came up with more of those daft nicknames, which make you look retarded btw) so you shouldnt get involved.

I am not a fan of the direction that was taken. No. I also lack the necessary skills to make some sort of "fixed" SDK that allows modding of KW. EA won't do jack (like westwood). Because it won't make money. So somebody who both cares and knows how needs too. Obviously I am not that peson or I'd have done something, as it is I am meerly pointing out the abscence of and need for said person.

The stupid names are because they are stupid games.
C&C3 Ends in spamming and one good TC (MEC2)
KW is just KW
RA3 is the braindead child of a copy of nuts magazine, several hundred LSD tablets, some bad japanese cartoons and a half-working copy of RA2.

I dunno, with the controlled resources, RA3 seems balanced, with interesting unit mechanics.

Plus I've played the game, so, from my experience, it can be an interesting game.

But RA3 should have never been made, EVER. RA2 was fun & cool enough.

what SHOULD have happened, is Westwood would still be alive and kicking, and after releasing Emperor: Battle for Dune and the true C&C Renegade (you know, the initial version, being made without EA's creative team barging in and censoring and basically just destroying everything), they then focused all their efforts into creating the ultimate SciFi medium scale customizable RTS game ever -

Tiberian Twilight, the revolution. It would be in 3D, and you would love it; it would have been a Gem in RTS games.

But, that never happened. *Sigh*

lol, true that 2D suits RTS alot, and yea, really, the reviews, all about it being ancient graphics, tons-o-bugs, but besides that, it looks pretty kick ass, leaving the cutscenes out, hopefully, when the demo comes out, it will come out being good to my expectations.
