M-142 HIMARS
EDF HIMARS (EDF designation M-142)
Cost: 2000
Armor: Medium
Speed: Medium-Fast
Weapon: M25 HE Rockets
Range: Very Long
Research Center Tech, Tier-3 Siege Artillery
The M-142 HIMARS is the EDF's replacement for the MLRS M-270. Designed with high speed, rapid deployment in mind, the HIMARS is completely unlike any artillery to precede it. Prior to the deployment of the HIMARS, the theory of artillery deployment centered on low mobility and heavy backup; the lone artillery unit was just not an acceptable concept.
The HIMARS is fast enough to operate independently- Main Battle Tanks have great difficulty keeping speed with the HIMARS. However, this speed comes at the sacrifice of almost all armor, with only enough armor plating on the crew compartment to stop pistol caliber rounds.
Complying to UN and then EDF demands, the HIMARS is capable of firing most MLRS munitions in service, but due to increasing liberalism in the world scene, this really became limited to the M-25 HE rocket, which was the sole rocket to not be classed as a "cluster" munition. Cluster munitions had been banned at the turn of the millennium, and by 2005, there were none of such munitions still remaining.
The EDF HIMARS standard operating procedure is to rapidly fire 3 M-25 rockets for effect. And awhile all the cluster munitions of the last generation are gone, the M-25 has shown incredible potential in field testing and combat; the sheer power of each rocket can damage and destroy all varieties of targets, including infantry formations, heavy armor, defensive positions, concrete fortifications and even warships, if they get close enough.
Variants: M-142: Standard model
M-270: Previous artillery piece of the EDF Shown Above: M-142 (left), M-270 (right)
Voxel Notes
The old MLRS model is actually quite poor in its representation of the actual thing; the HIMARS is much better proportioned. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

Hey, I understand if you don't like the mod, or don't care for it; but I would really love feedback on the voxels, at least. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

In some areas, it does have a little blur, near the wheels, correct?

Very nice! I like this. Does the entire thing have to rotate to fire?
Wait...it fires 3 rockets in a burst?
The launcher is turreted, and it fires 1/2 its payload at a time (or a three rocket burst)

Really? Could you elaborate? This is just me, but I have been itching to replace the MLRS for some time, I made mine completely out of scale. :/ _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

the track one is naturally bigger, it looks stronger, and it looks more capable of delivering an ass kicking. The tracked one looks like it was designed with it's purpose in hand while the other looks like they just mounted a missile rack on the back of the truck. The hydrolic lift alos looks better on the truck. Don't get me wrong, both are good, I just like the tracked one better. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Funny, that is exactly how it works in real life
MLRS was built to blast targets with rockets, the HIMARS is a FMTV (Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles, a type of US truck) with a single launch tube of an MLRS mounted on the base.
As for sharpening it, I will see what I can do; I am not too great at hand-painting and Tangent Plane and Influence normals absolutely butcher anything I use with them.
Edit, Influence was nice enough to not completely fubar the voxel.

If you use Influence Normals set the range to 3 or less and uncheck "smooth my normals." I hate that checkbox; that's what fubars my voxels so I don't even use it. With this setting it should be a bit sharper without sacrificing quality.
I personally think the tracked version is better, because the wheeled version looks too low-tech for the EDF. Halftrack maybe, but not all wheels. It can still keep its low-armor status as well that way, and tracks can still make it go at a good speed. Last edited by Yurisarmy on Tue Dec 02, 2008 12:51 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

Psst.
You know, it is based off a real weapons system, right? _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

lmao, i agree, but this thing REALLY gives an asswhooping, i mean it, its range is monstrous and damage is big iirc, well, considering its strength, it should naturally have weak armor, like how you have 100 points in ur stats on an rpg, this guys stats are all 40 on range, and 35 on damage, 10 on speed, 5 on armor :V _________________ Please, I DON'T read the signature rules of the forum. @hotrods20 I know you are posting because philip30 has posted first but id still check the date, especially since what was posted before you isnt exactly the most useful/helpful of posts ever _________________ Creator of TS:BoB and some other things that might be good when finnished. QUICK_EDIT

Isn't the tracked version an M270 MLRS? The M-142 HMARS is only a wheeled system...both of which are American made...btw...
Low Tech? The HMARS just entered service not too long ago, and has the exact same capabilities as the M270, and is combat ready transportable in a C-130.
/end Besides the point
Anyway, they look nice and are clearly distinguishable from other vehicles at a glance. _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. QUICK_EDIT

These sort of threads never die. They're here and open so you can provide feedback on the units- I don't really care if you bump the 2-year old Railgun Tank thread so long as you got something relevant to say.
I don't really mind the bot post, as it did get people commenting on the unit again- which is again is the entire reason I posted these instead of just putting up a unit entry on my site and leaving it at that.
@Regulus- If you're referring to Yurisarmy's post, he said it was too low-tech for the SSIA, as he had this confused for an SSIA unit. It would be too low-tech for the SSIA- and off-color too. XD
But yes, the old version was the M-270. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90
