SunAge - Footage from the Pre-release event!
Subject description: Includes first ever gameplay footage!
Hey guys!
Figured I'd come give you guys a little update so you don't miss out on the action.
For those of you who don't know what SunAge is: It's a brand-new RTS with modern features and graphics while sticking to the old-school design that makes retro RTS games so much more fun than their modern counterparts. For more info: http://www.sunage-the-game.com
On October 5th, we held a pre-release party with several people from Lighthouse Interactive and a few from Vertex4, including Roman Pfneudl, the CEO and lead programmer. 15 lucky fans were also invited to come test the game. I'm happy to say that I've had nothing but positive feedback from them! I think it was Roman's charming personality that really won them over.
These above two links sometimes crash versions of Quicktime. But if you right-click on the links, hit "save as..." and save them to your computer, it should work fine.
PLEASE SHARE THESE VIDEOS WITH EVERYONE!
We are also working on an official trailer, which will be much better quality. So keep an eye on our website and sign-up to the newsletter:
All I have to say guys is thank god! We've been waiting for a good old 2D RTS for eons, and it's great to see you keeping to this fashion because not all of us are goaded by 3D graphics. Keep up the excellent work, I'll seriously look into buying this game.
The only thing I can see which looks a little off at the moment is the infantry, maybe some different animations as they're firing so some will stand up, some will kneel, etc.
I've favourited it on my Youtube account, as well as some Universe at War videos just so it gathers more popularity, the advertisement of Robot Storm seems to have picked up a lot of fans, so lets see if we can redirect them to see your game Last edited by Elerium-155 on Thu Oct 11, 2007 9:26 pm; edited 3 times in total QUICK_EDIT

z0mg a new game that my system can handle?
Buying it just for that factor. Looks like it'll deliver ,as well. 3D is nice, but, nothing wrong with turning back to 2-D. _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
Finally.
I was looking forward this game for some time.
Excellent graphics, much better than most 2D RTS's, imo.
Will buy (after the price goes down:p)
Still, some of the innovations aren't so innovative.

And thanks Gufu for making me laugh, lol! Yes, I am a bot, but only during the week, on weekends I relax and write articles instead.
And they're Iberium RODS, not pods. They're very rod-like and not very pod-like. Also, if we called them Iberium Pods then we'd have this annoying acronym where people would say, "Dude, send me some iPods." And that's just not cool, we prefer to say, "I need red."
Well, yes. I do work for Vertex4, this is my job. One of the main reasons I came to this site is that Jokeman (Vertex4 crew member!) has been part of this site for a long time, so I heard, and came over to update you guys on the games progress.
Wow, I loved Dark Reign. But really, it's only like Dark Reign in that it's awesome. The graphics are much much in advance. Although we use pre-rendered sprites, we also have 3D lighting and particle effects. As well as other awesome special effects. (not my department though!)
Thanks Elerium for your constructive criticism on the infantry. Knowing Roman, he could just spend months tweaking that until it was PERFECT! We most likely don't have the time to get that in just yet but I'll suggest it if we do an expansion! (You may have noticed that the infantry have a real kind of lifelike behaviour when they're ordered around to move. Keep an eye out and you'll see what I mean.)
Thanks for the favoriting! The Yahoo link is the best quality out of all the streaming sites (in my opinion), we'll be launching it on our official website soon. It's just waiting on my news-post, but I'm still sorting through all the pictures of the event!
@Kiith-Sa
- The price will start at $30 in america (as opposed to $50 standard), so there should be no reason to wait! QUICK_EDIT
AMMAGAWD! This game is gonna rock, srsly. And it's gonna be cheap.
I'm buying me a copy of this, as soon as it comes out. I do hope you guys do get it done just as you invision it, and that it becomes a great game. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
I'm in Slovakia. Will it even be sold here?
And I'll definitely wait for a lower price, $30's not so little for me:p _________________ Time will tell...

@m666 - I just hope you guys find it as enjoyable as we do!
@Kiith - One of the distribution methods should be online, so you will be able to purchase it wherever you live. No idea if it will come to Slovakia, we can only hope! QUICK_EDIT

well... i was studying Computer Graphics and got the job ad from a professor. I submitted my application to vertex4 and got the job. I've done some Game Developement and Game Design projects at university, so i had something to show. And one big plus was that i worked on ROTD.
I think, it's essential to show that you really want to do games. Working on mods or other small game projects is a very good way to demonstrate this.
@Gufu - How about no? I have to admit that Iberium is similar to Tiberium, even though that is a total accident and certainly not a copyright infringement (read into it a little!).
And in referenced to "iPods"... its R O D S... hope that clears it up for you.
p.s. Lol.
p.p.s. For those of you who are confused, Iberium Rods are nothing like Tiberium. QUICK_EDIT

I'm utterly buying this game when it's out. From what I read this is definately the sort of rts I've been looking for. And the Shuddup Tactical Nuclear Warhead made me and my friend on my end laugh. And this is what I thought:
Sentinel: "lol I iz pwn3d u newbie"
Federacy: "goddamned it all, SHADDUP!"
*Nuclear launch detected*
Although the nukes are pretty tough to get, you've got to get a lot of Iberium to get one up and launched.
You can tell that we've got a sense of humour at Vertex4. Why can't you have fun AND make a good game? _________________ SunAge Community Manager

will it ship with a map maker? And if so, will it allow for the creation of single and/or multiplayer maps? _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
Hmmm, I'm wondering about modding options, could you tell us about that ? _________________ Micro TS

@gufu - No, SunAge is PC only. Blame the person moving the mouse.
@McLovin - We have a map-maker, although it's very user-UNfriendly at the moment so we would like to dedicate a bit more time to it before releasing it to the public. But rest assured, you will be able to create new maps and we would LOVE for it to be available by release... However, sadly that doesn't look possible. I imagine it will allow singleplayer AND multiplayer maps. I'll have to check on that.
@Judeau - Roman expressed a deep desire to make the game as moddable as possible. I believe it is possible to do server-side modifications to create new gametypes and such. When it comes to creating TCs and the like, I don't know! I'm no expert on the moddability of the game and will release more information on this when I know.
p.s. I may be wrong on all counts except the PC-only one. I tried asking Roman but he's busy on the game as usual. ^^ _________________ SunAge Community Manager

Indeed OwnAge! I always love those kinds of things, and yeah the fun factor is just as important as everything else you could think of . Looking forward to this game, and good luck with it _________________

@ Gosho
Why not folders? And for mods, suport for a folder like "mods" or something, with all the mods in different folders :p _________________ This is a signature QUICK_EDIT
Im glad to see this game will be as moddable as possible. As much as i want to get stuck into the works of 3d i will always have a soft spot for 2D works. QUICK_EDIT
