BioShock
Subject description: Or, what should have been System Shock 3
I preordered BioShock yesterday. I must say, it's looking nice. I finally saw the E3 demonstration, and I liked what I saw. I've been looking forward to this game since it was announced, and I can't wait until June 2nd (that's when the store clerk says the first shipment arrives). I was kind of disappointed when I learned that it was being devoloped for Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously, because they will be forced to tailor the game to the limitations of the 360, which will result in the game not being as good as it could potentially be. However, it is looking promising even so, and with Ken Levine on the development team, what can go wrong? _________________ This mod is dead!
yah that video was awesome except for the frame skipping and unsynced audio.
i don't like how they decided to go for a toy story look for the people. it's totally ridiculous to have comedy kiddie show visuals in a horror game. and i don't like how there are no monsters or creatures in the game, only humans that look like they have flu. QUICK_EDIT

Not meaning to sound rude, but you have absolutely no idea what the hell you are talking about. Having seen actual gameplay footage, screenshots, and prerendered artwork and videos, I have seen nothing that could be considered cartoonish about the game. I, for one, think it look superb, both the characters and the environments. The tragic near-humanity of many of the inhabitants of Rapture really adds to the creepy atmosphere of the game, and the city itself looks absolutely fantastic in a weird post-apocalyptic Art Deco kind of way. In addition, your complaint that there are no "monsters" or "creatures" in the game demonstrates a lack of knowledge about the game itself and the survival horror genre in general. First and foremost, whether or not there are any "monsters" as you called them to be found depends entirely on one's own definition of what constitutes a "monster". I, personally, would think that horrifically mutated once-human scavengers and massive, genetically modified monstrosities in diving suits fits the definition of "monster" nicely. Even if it doesn't, it is perfectly possible to create a good horror game without freakish monsters. You, like so many other people, have confused "horror" with "shock". You don't need to be constantly startled to be scared. Atmosphere, story, and dialogue add even more to the scare factor than constantly respawning (insert generic monster here)s ever could.
While it seems to me that you haven't really even looked at the game all that much, I am open to discussion, and if you would be so kind as to actually point out what, specifically, you think looks like "comedy kiddie show" visuals, I'll be more than happy to take a look myself. _________________ This mod is dead!

Having actually played SS2, I'm genuinely looking forward to it. Provided the stupid weapon degrading system isn't in effect and it has the same atmosphere then it should end up being great.
By the way, SS2 had about eight enemies, most of which you never met until towards the end. Variation in enemies isn't an issue, look at FEAR. You fought a massive six enemies, Replica troops, ATF troops, those really fast things, the flying bots with lasers, heavily-armoured Replica troops and the ghostly demons. FEAR and SS2 both showed how to do a good horror game, it worked.
Oh, and I have no idea what you're on about with the cartoony look either. Personally, the look right now works in my mind. It creates an eery atmosphere and I like the unique appearance it has. _________________

SS2 was an amazing game. Both it and FEAR were great, in fact. FEAR was bloody scary, but it made me want to play it more! It didn't bother me at all that there were only a few kinds of enemy, in fact I didn't really notice it, tbh. _________________ Organised Rules.ini by Judeau QUICK_EDIT
no this is not from the movie Toy Story. this is from BioShock.
and yah i like the environments with all that cool stylish architecture but i wish they spent at least some of their concept art budget on some creatures.
and F.E.A.R. should have had some more different enemies too.
i need content. i like to explore and adventure and discover new things. i don't like when games developers skimp on content and just recycle everything ad nauseum. Last edited by ViPr on Tue Feb 27, 2007 1:49 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

I want them too for an immersive game, but variety in enemies isn't what's important in a game. The little girl, the chatter over the radio of the Replica forces and just little details in the environment made nice touches. When you got to the Armacham building, each office was different and it showed that the developers really put effort into making the game unique. It was similar with SS2 but less blatant due to technical restrictions. _________________

THANK you.
Oh, and by the way, do you still have SS2? If so, are you up to a multiplayer game? (if you don't have the patch that lets you play multiplayer, you can get it at http://www.strangebedfellows.de) _________________ This mod is dead!

It's a yes, actually, but I no longer have the time to really play games much any more. Never tried playing it online either, I'm sure I'd just be disappointed. _________________

I heard the release date was pushed back to sometime in August. Disappointing for some, although I see it as more time for me to upgrade my system to the point where it will actually run on my system. I just hope they don't cancel my pre-order! _________________ This mod is dead!
It looks quite excellent, though the computer I have ATM will not run it, but i should be building a new computer shortly... _________________ QUICK_EDIT
